About the project
Softimage Project focuses on the connection between digital and analog elements within the visual arts, based on the latest (post)digital innovations across various media. The show revolves around a group of eighteen students actively engaged in the Softimage seminar at the Weißensee School of Art. Their artistic endeavors primarily revolve around the exploration of both analog and digital practices. Ranging from digital-esque paintings on canvas to prints crafted using machinery and 3D programs, and extending to virtual object animations, the project ideas reflect a diverse artistic landscape that underscores the perspectives and possibilities arising from the symbiosis of analog and digital techniques.
The exhibition at Lobe Block serves as an inaugural opportunity to comprehensively present the research and outcomes of the seminar.
*The term Softimage, coined by Ingrid Hoelzl and Rémi Marie, melds two concepts related to synthetic imagery: the notion of the image as software and the concept of a soft image – an image characterized by flexibility, adaptability, and customizability. Consequently, it embodies a multifaceted and cross-platform nature of the image.
