Artists
It is a rare stroke of luck when siblings achieve comparable professional mastery on their instruments and then go on to represent top international standards in chamber music ensembles. One such stroke of luck is Quatuor Tchalik, a string quartet, founded in Paris in 2013. Since 2018 at the latest, as winners and double prizewinners of the Salzburg Mozart Competition, the four have been playing in the top league of the European string quartet scene.
Quatuor Tchalik will present their new album at the Lobe Block in Berlin on 30 May 2024. Further concert highlights will take the quartet to Germany in 2023/2024, including the Cologne and
Dresden Philharmonie and the Heidelberger Frühling. An ARTE documentary recorded at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig will be released in autumn 2024. Most recently, they performed Beethoven live
on Radio France.
The Lobe Canteen offers a relaxed atmosphere, excellent drinks and snacks. The bar opens at 6 pm and is also available after the concert.
Program
The Quatuor Tchalik presents music from the French and Ukrainian avant-garde of the 20th century. Growing up in a Russian-French household with Ukrainian roots, the siblings made music together from an early age. On their latest album, titled “Music of the Youth”, they combine early works by Maurice Ravel and Boris Lyatoshynsky and place them in an artistic dialogue. Ravel’s string quartet sparkles with youthful energy and combines traditional forms with innovative sound colours, while Lyatoshynsky’s quartets represent a powerful connection between Slavic tradition and modernity. The graphic design of the album is inspired by the works of Alexandra Exter, an avant-garde artist of the Ukrainian art scene at the beginning of the 20th century. The Paris-based Quatuor Tchalik also utilises this dimension for the aesthetic presentation of the album, thus demonstrating the close connection between music and visual
art.
